I'm having trouble sending an e-mail to you from the Internet Cafe. I'm clicking on your email link and it won't create a message. Can you help?
Sure can!, you may have to check that the computer your working on has an e-mail affiliated system. I.e: Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express etc. If there is not one you can not use the link.
You can highlight the e-mail address then right click to copy. Then paste it into your "hotmail", "g-mail", "yahoo" or other internet based mail servers. Make sure you save it in your contacts area for next time.
Does it cost me to register an interest for work?
Absolutely not. The Wanaka Job Agency acts on the communities behalf, helping people find jobs and finding jobs for people. We aim to keep the town moving. Creating opportunities on your behalf.
So if there is something that you are good at and want to do while you are here, let us know.
Do I need to have a work visa?
At certain times of the year, mainly the summer months, we have shortages in hospitality and building trades in the Wanaka area. You may be a candidate for sponsorship or a Variation of Conditions to your current NZ Work Permit. In the winter months we are generally unable to sponsor people as there is an influx of people to Wanaka. For more information on obtaining a work visa, a skilled migrant visa for possible residency and to order and immigration pack, check out one of the following: www.immigration.govt.nz, www.nz-immigration.co.nz.
Does the Lake Wanaka Job Agency take a cut out of my wages?
Not at all, again it is not in the interest of the job agency to get involved with individuals hourly rate of pay. We leave this up the employer and the individual to negotiate this based on the level of skill, knowledge and experience needed for the position.
How much money can I expect to earn?
It's hard to determine actual rates, currently minimum wage for an Adult in New Zealand is $12 + 8% holiday pay per hour. Therefore you can not earn any less than this amount. This is for positions which require little or no experience. The rates go up from there.
You are also entitled to a payslip each time a payment is made for work. This pay-slip shows how the 8% holiday pay is paid out. If this is not on your payslip or explained in a signed employment agreement you can legally claim your employer is not paying you holiday pay.
How do I find somewhere to live?

Does everyone working for wages need to have an employment agreement?
As of the year 2000, all employees on wages, must have an employment agreement. Companies, you can pay up $10,000 fine if you are in breach the Employment Relations Act? For example, employing staff to work for you without written and signed employment agreements. Saying you were unaware of the clause is unfortunately no defence.
